Autumn update

So the last of the tomatoes have been taken off and the bed has been upgraded with lots of compost.  I  also harvested most of the basil, but found that the rain had brought in a pest who had munched on a lot of it, and made a home in one of the leaves!
But there was still quite a bit to cut up and freeze in ice cube trays.  You can do the same with parsley and other herbs, I pack them into zip lock bags once they are frozen - great for soups and stews.

The best tomatoes this year were Sugar Snap and Black Russian variates.  The Roma and Grosse Lizzie were not very good.  Next year only buy GRAFTED GROSSE LIZZIE.

I have left a bunch of basil in a pot to go to seed so that I can harvest it for next year, and one plant that will struggle through winter, but will provide the odd basil leaf when I need it.

The hit of the year were the SNOW PEAS AND SNAP PEAS!  Need to expand the garden next year so that I can get a lot more of these in.

Some of the rocket was let go to seed, and these have been harvested and put away until next year.

Currently I have Broccoletti seeds in, waiting to sprout, and a non-bolting strain of coriander in a pot.  The carrots and parsnips are on their way!

Off to the shop to buy some Garlic, Leeks, Cauliflower and Cabbage seedlings to finish off the Autumn planting.  Meanwhile, the compost is cooking.
